Yellow fever

Risk and entry rules are not the same question.

Yellow fever vaccination may be recommended for personal protection, required as proof of entry, both or neither. Your full journey determines which rules apply.

A travel-health consultation does not guarantee a vaccination, prescription, certificate or medicine. Please do not email medical details.

The details that change the plan.

Safe travel-health advice joins current destination information with the person, timing and activities behind the journey.

01

Disease risk

Personal protection depends on the country, region, season, activities and your individual vaccine suitability.

02

Certificate requirement

A country may request proof because you arrive from or transit through a yellow-fever-risk area, even if your destination itself has no transmission risk.

03

Authorised provision

Only a designated centre can administer yellow fever vaccine and complete the recognised ICVP certificate.

Clinical review

One journey, assessed properly.

Advice is updated for the itinerary and then filtered through your health history, previous protection and the time left before departure.

Destination guidance informs the decision. It does not replace an individual assessment.

01

Map every transit

Airport transit duration and previous countries can affect certificate requirements.

02

Check the traveller

Age, pregnancy, immunity, thymus history, allergies and previous doses are relevant to vaccine safety.

03

Verify old records

A correctly completed existing certificate may remain relevant; it should be reviewed rather than automatically repeating a dose.

04

Use an authorised centre

The centre makes the vaccination decision and issues or advises on the certificate or exemption process.

Before the appointment

Bring the journey into focus.

Accurate dates, destinations, records and medicines help the clinician give advice that is useful and safe.

Have ready

  • Every country and transit airport in travel order
  • Arrival and departure dates for each stop
  • Any previous yellow fever certificate or vaccine record
  • Age, pregnancy, immune-system and thymus information
  • Allergies, medicines and previous vaccine reactions

Important limits

  • A GP advice letter is not an ICVP certificate
  • The border authority makes the final decision on entry
  • Not everyone can safely receive yellow fever vaccine
  • A medical exemption may not be accepted by every country
  • Do not repeat vaccination solely because a certificate is missing without specialist review
A simple route

From itinerary to action.

Each step should leave you clearer about what to arrange, what remains uncertain and what to do if plans change.

01

Trace

Map the destination and every transit.

02

Separate

Identify disease risk and certificate rules independently.

03

Assess

Review vaccine suitability and any previous dose.

04

Refer

Attend an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre for the final decision and documentation.

Useful answers

Before you travel.

The right answer depends on the journey and the person taking it.

Can Allhours GP issue a yellow fever certificate?

Only an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre can vaccinate and issue an ICVP. Allhours GP can assess your itinerary and direct you to the authorised route unless a specific Allhours location is separately confirmed as authorised.

Do I need the vaccine just to enter a country?

Sometimes proof is required because of where you have recently travelled or transited. The disease-risk recommendation and entry-certificate rule must be checked separately.

What if I lost my certificate?

Contact the authorised centre that vaccinated you if possible. Do not assume you need another dose; the centre can advise what evidence or replacement may be available.

Can everyone have yellow fever vaccine?

No. Suitability depends on factors including age, pregnancy, immune status, thymus history and allergies. An authorised clinician must balance risk and benefit.

Where do I find an authorised centre?

Use the NaTHNaC Yellow Fever Zone centre search and confirm the appointment directly with the chosen centre.
