Why a home visit?

Your space. A proper conversation.

There are times when a journey to a clinic is difficult, or you would simply prefer to talk in familiar surroundings. A home visit brings the GP conversation to you where a visiting service is available and clinically suitable.

Every concern is assessed individually. A home visit may not provide every examination, test or treatment available in a clinic.

Talk through what is going on

Explain your symptoms, medical history and questions in a place where you feel comfortable.

Be assessed in person

Your GP can discuss your concern and consider a physical examination when it is appropriate and possible at home.

Understand the next step

Leave the appointment with advice and a plan, including whether treatment or a different service is needed.

Choose the right setting

Care that fits the concern.

The best appointment format depends on what you need and which services are available. A clinician may recommend a different route after reviewing your concern.

01 / AT HOME

A GP home visit

May suit you when a face-to-face assessment is appropriate and travelling to a clinic is difficult or not your preference.

Explore home visits ↗
02 / AT A CLINIC

An in-person clinic visit

May be the better setting if your concern needs facilities or equipment that are not available during a home visit.

03 / FROM ANYWHERE

A video or telephone GP

May offer a convenient first conversation when a physical examination is not needed to make a safe plan.

Home visits are not a substitute for an ambulance or emergency department. Availability, clinical suitability and the service area must all be confirmed before a visit could be offered.

A considered visit

From your address to a clear plan.

The planned booking journey will show whether a visit can be offered at your address and what it involves before you commit.

01

Check coverage & suitability

When booking opens, you will see if an appropriate visiting GP appointment is available for your area and concern.

02

Review the full details

Confirm the visit window, clinician, consultation length, total price and any travel charge or cancellation terms before payment.

03

Meet your GP at home

Talk through your concern and be examined if appropriate. Your GP will explain the assessment and what to do next.

During your consultation

Care that travels with purpose.

Seeing a GP at home should feel clear and unhurried: a conversation about your symptoms, an assessment that fits the setting, and advice you can act on.

Prescriptions, tests and referrals depend on clinical judgement. An onward service and any additional cost should be explained before you agree to it.

A conversation shaped around you, including the background that may matter to your concern.

An examination when appropriate, within what can be done safely in a home setting.

A next step you understand, whether that is advice, treatment, tests or onward care.

Coverage & booking preview

Only book when the details are certain.

Home visits will be offered only where an area, a visiting clinician and an appointment time are confirmed. The total charge will be visible before payment.

Good to know

Before a GP comes to you.

The practical questions about the planned home-visit service.

Where will GP home visits be available?

We have not confirmed coverage areas. When the service opens, eligible addresses will be checked against the available visiting clinicians before any appointment is offered.

Are home visits available 24/7?

No home-visit hours have been confirmed. Allhours GP plans 24/7 online access, but that does not mean a GP can travel to every area at any time. Visit windows will be shown only when the home-visit service opens.

Can I book a GP home visit now?

Not through this page. Home visits are a planned service, and coverage, clinician availability, appointment times and prices are still to be confirmed.

What can a GP do during a home visit?

A GP can discuss your concern, assess you and consider an examination if it is appropriate and can be done safely at home. Tests, prescriptions and referrals depend on the clinical assessment and local service arrangements; they are not guaranteed.

Will children be eligible for home visits?

Age eligibility and the suitability of visits for children have not yet been confirmed. A clinician would consider the child’s age and symptoms, and whether another service is more appropriate. Explore children’s GP care.

What if I need equipment, tests or more urgent care?

A clinic, urgent service or hospital may be the right setting when your concern needs facilities beyond a home visit. For a life-threatening emergency, call 999. If you need urgent advice and are unsure where to go, contact NHS 111.

Will travel cost extra?

No prices or travel charges have been confirmed. The complete visit price, including any applicable travel charge, will be shown before payment when booking opens.
