Short notice still deserves a safe plan.

Even when departure is close, a travel-health review can identify the most useful actions, urgent certificate checks and risks you should not overlook.

A travel-health consultation does not guarantee a vaccination, prescription, certificate or medicine. Please do not email medical details.

The details that change the plan.

Safe travel-health advice joins current destination information with the person, timing and activities behind the journey.

01

Check entry rules first

A missing required certificate can affect travel. Use current official sources for every destination and transit.

02

Prioritise by consequence

The plan focuses on serious and likely risks, time-sensitive medicines and practical steps that remain possible.

03

Be honest about protection

Some vaccines take time or multiple doses. A dose close to departure may not provide full protection.

Clinical review

One journey, assessed properly.

Advice is updated for the itinerary and then filtered through your health history, previous protection and the time left before departure.

Destination guidance informs the decision. It does not replace an individual assessment.

01

Departure clock

Exact hours or days to departure shape what can safely be arranged.

02

Itinerary risks

Country, region, activities, accommodation and medical access determine priorities.

03

Vaccines and malaria

The clinician considers accelerated options, antimalarial timing and alternatives without promising availability.

04

Practical safeguards

Insurance, medicine supply, bite prevention, food and water precautions and local-care plans can still make a difference.

Before the appointment

Bring the journey into focus.

Accurate dates, destinations, records and medicines help the clinician give advice that is useful and safe.

Have ready

  • Exact departure date and time
  • Full itinerary and transit details
  • All available vaccine records
  • Medicine list, allergies and medical conditions
  • Your ability to attend an in-person service before leaving

Important limits

  • An urgent request does not guarantee a same-day appointment or stock
  • Not every vaccine has an accelerated schedule
  • A certificate cannot be backdated
  • Remote assessment cannot administer vaccines
  • Changing or postponing travel may sometimes be the safest option
A simple route

From itinerary to action.

Each step should leave you clearer about what to arrange, what remains uncertain and what to do if plans change.

01

Send

Provide dates and itinerary without emailing detailed medical information.

02

Triage

Identify certificate deadlines and the highest clinical risks.

03

Act

Arrange feasible assessment, medicine or in-person vaccine steps.

04

Travel informed

Understand remaining risk, incomplete protection and when to seek help.

Useful answers

Before you travel.

The right answer depends on the journey and the person taking it.

Is it too late to get travel advice?

Not necessarily. NHS guidance says last-minute advice can still be worthwhile, although some vaccine courses and protection cannot be completed in time.

Can you guarantee a same-day vaccination?

No. Clinical suitability, stock, in-person capacity, vaccine schedule and certificate requirements all need confirmation.

Can an appointment make me fully protected tomorrow?

No clinician can promise that. Protection develops differently by vaccine and may require several doses. Bite, food, water and other precautions remain essential.

What if I need a yellow fever certificate urgently?

Contact an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. Certificates cannot be backdated and vaccine suitability must still be assessed.

Should I still check travel insurance?

Yes. Check that cover fits the destination, activities, existing conditions and any official travel advice before departure.
